Especially in the summer months pollen, dust, mold and other allergens are hard to avoid. Here are some ways to help you fight them and stay symptom-free!
When you are dusting, make sure to use a microfiber cloth dampened with water in order to trap the dust and not let it propagate further. If you were to use a feather duster or cloth you risk spreading the dust further.
Make sure your filters are clean
Especially in the summer, make sure that the filters on your air conditioner are clean and are the correct quality. A HEPA filter is recommended for your air conditioner. These filters are very important as they regulate air quality and prevent bacteria from entering your home.
Wash and cover your pillows
Pillows are usually where you will find dust mites so make sure that you use pillow cases and wash them weekly. Depending on the type of pillow that you have, it is recommended to have them washed every 3-4 months.
Make sure your mattress and bed are clean
The same way as for pillows, it’s important to use mattress protectors and covers before setting on the sheets that you will sleep on.Mattresses need to be protected from dust mites equally.
Try to limit pollen exposure
Try and keep your windows closed as much as possible and keep the air conditioner going. Having low temperatures in your home prevents humidity which is a perfect environment for dust mites and various allergens. Try also to keep your shoes outside and wipe them before going inside.
